How Is SAP's AI Redefining HR And The Future Workforce?

Artificial intelligence is reshaping the modern workplace by redefining productivity and decision-making. While AI offers a pathway to increased efficiency for businesses navigating economic uncertainty and a global skills gap, there is a central truth that people remain the ultimate source of success.
The critical challenge for business leaders is how to unlock human potential at scale.
According to research from SAP, AI users are already saving up to 75 minutes per day, a time saving that can be reinvested into strategic areas such as innovation and collaboration.
This is not merely a technological change but a new phase of people and talent transformation where AI can help foster agility and resilience.
Unlocking strategic insights with AI
SAP SuccessFactors is positioning itself at the centre of this AI-powered transformation, helping organisations to convert disruption into a competitive advantage.
SAP says its combination of trusted intelligence and operational strength enables businesses to connect people and strategy more effectively.
A core component of this is Joule SAP’s AI copilot, which is embedded across its enterprise applications. Joule provides real-time intelligence through a conversational interface and according to SAP's findings, it already supports 80% of the most-used tasks in SAP systems and is available in 11 languages.
In November, SAP will launch its first HR-specific Joule Agent, the Performance and Goals Agent.
This tool is designed to empower managers with tailored insights, goal updates and conversation prompts.
Four more agents are scheduled for release in the first half of 2026:
- Career and Talent Development Agent
- HR Service Agent
- Payroll Agent
- People Intelligence Agent
These solutions are intended to streamline administrative tasks, offer intelligent pay explanations and present workforce analytics in plain language.
SAP is also introducing a workforce knowledge network to integrate third-party expertise into Joule.
Josh Bersin, CEO of the Josh Bersin Company, says: “Joule offers a revolutionary technology to speed and simplify the lives of every business person.”
Improving efficiency and scale through core HR
Operational excellence is the foundation of a high-performing workforce, allowing organisations to scale with consistency and speed.
SAP is enhancing its core HR capabilities to strengthen this foundation. According to SAP, SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central is used across 179 countries with localisation support in 104, making it a trusted global HR platform.
Innovations aim to build on this strength. The SAP SuccessFactors Workforce Scheduling tool launching in January 2026 will help planners align shift schedules with real-time business demand and required skills.
This could reduce administrative burdens, prevent staffing issues and support compliance. Enhanced time-off capabilities will also help organisations meet complex country-specific leave regulations in key markets like Australia, Germany and the US.
SAP says its SuccessFactors Enterprise Service Management streamlines HR service delivery by automating workflows, which frees up HR teams to concentrate on strategic high-impact work.
The evolving role of the chief human resources officer
As workforce challenges become a primary concern in the boardroom, the influence of Chief Human Resources Officers (CHROs) is growing.
New research from IWG indicates that 88% of UK CHROs feel their role has never been more impactful, with 91% now considered trusted senior advisers to their CEOs. Mark Dixon, CEO of IWG, describes the role of CHRO as “indispensable” in today’s business landscape.
Mark says: “When HR insights are integrated at this level, organisations can better anticipate workforce needs, develop strong leadership pipelines and implement policies that support sustainable growth.”
Flexible working models are also contributing to this change.
“CHROs are leading this transformation, ensuring that hybrid working not only supports employee wellbeing and progress but also promotes long-term business success,” adds Mark.
This sentiment is shared by other industry leaders who recognise the increasing strategic importance of the HR function.
Gail Hatfield, Director at Growth & Harmony People Solutions, says: “CEOs are seeing the value in having a close trusted adviser, someone who can work with them on the overall performance of the organisation and the board.”
