McDonald’s has announced two C-suite appointments, indicating a strategic effort to fuel its ongoing growth and sharpen its competitive market position.

The appointments of Emily Reasor as Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer and Das Dasgupta to the newly created role of Chief Data Analytics and AI Officer could show a commitment to embedding strategy and data-driven decisions at the core of its operations.

In a LinkedIn post on 26 September, McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski announced that Emily Reasor would join McDonald's in October. Chris explained the significance of the hire, stating: “This hire signals our intent to make strategy a dynamic capability - one that steers execution, unlocks growth and strengthens our competitive edge.”

Emily brings extensive experience to McDonald's, having spent almost 18 years as a Senior Partner at McKinsey & Company.

According to her LinkedIn profile, her work there was concentrated within the B2C sectors, focusing on breakout growth and analytics. Her background appears to align with the objectives set out by McDonald's leadership for her new position.

Chris elaborated on her role in McDonald's future.

“As we unlock the next chapter of our growth, Emily will work across our global business to identify new opportunities, embed strategic discipline into how we operate and ensure our priorities remain anchored in what matters most to our customers, communities and the McDonald’s system,” he said.

Das Dasgupta, McDonald's Chief Data, Analytics and AI Officer

Harnessing data analytics and AI

The creation of a Chief Data Analytics and AI Officer role highlights the increasing importance of technology and data in McDonald's strategy.

Das Dasgupta, who has been appointed to this position, brings over 25 years of experience from various Fortune 500 companies, including roles as Director and Head of North America of Customer Experience at Amazon and Chief Data and Analytics Officer at Starbucks.

Skye Anderson, President of Global Business Services at McDonald’s, discussed the new role in a LinkedIn post.

A renewed focus on impact

These leadership changes follow other appointments aimed at strengthening McDonald's strategic direction. In September, McDonald’s added two new executives to its Global Impact Team, a division established in late 2020 to oversee purpose impact and sustainability.

This team is tasked with managing strategy and accountability across climate resources, people and community initiatives, including setting climate goals, ensuring responsible sourcing and developing DEI strategies.

Kathy Baird, Chief Impact Officer for McDonald's USA and Senior Vice President

Kathy Baird was named Chief Impact Officer for McDonald’s USA and Senior Vice President, while Anne Hammer became Vice President and Global Chief Communications Officer.

At the time of their appointment, Jon Banner, Executive Vice President and Global Chief Impact Officer at McDonald's, said: “In today’s fast-changing world, our ability to protect the Arches is more vital than ever. That’s why I’m thrilled to welcome two new leaders to Global Impact who will help raise the bar for how we show up during moments that matter.”

The series of these appointments at McDonald's could demonstrate a coordinated effort to build a leadership team equipped to achieve the company’s ambitious growth and transformation agenda.
